Cool V Star 1100 won't start when hot

Hi everyone, new to the forum. I am having an issue with my precious little "Maxine" not starting when she is hot. I moved back to Florida a year ago - bought my 1100 in MI - 1st air cooled bike I have owned - the others were all "fuel" cooled. When I am riding and stop for gas - especially on really hot days, when I go to start her back up, she just keeps acting like she is going to start but it usually takes a few minutes for her to kick over. You can smell the gas, and I am not using the throttle to restart her. I just had her re-jetted, she came with slip on pipes - in MI they said there was no need to have it re-jetted but after being down here - I thought what the heck - maybe that would help. Well that was not the answer. Any ideas?? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. By the way, I stopped at the bike shop and they said it was nothing to worry about. On the way out, came up beside a Harely, asked if his was air cooled he said yes - asked if he had any re-start issues on hot days like today (103-in the shade) he said no. So is it just me or do I have to live with Maxine being a *&^%$ in the heat? Thanks Shortcut
